This October the North Haven Art Guild will hold a multimedia art show whose theme is "bridges" These are some preliminary paintings of a foot bridge in Maine. I'll probably end up painting variations on this theme more times than I'd like to say. My inclination is to work with a closer perspective of the bridge as in the middle painting.
My interest in art started as a child but laid dormant while I worked in a career resolving family conflict as a mediator.
It's a long story with academic roots in mathematics and psychology, an enjoyable chapter teaching middle school students and a conclusion with work in State government.
As you can see, the path to painting has been circuitous.
We are bombarded with images in our daily lives from the minute we awake each morning until we close our eyes at night. We see them in magazines, on computer and television screens, on billboards, and in ubiquitous advertising.
For some of us the images continue while we sleep. While our other senses are also processing information it can be argued that modern life is disproportionately influenced by the objects in our visual world.
I've concluded that Art is important because it helps us understand our environment and provides a means for viewing the world, and communicating this vision to others.
