I haven't kept up with posting but I have been busy painting.
Yesterday I started a workshop with Bob Norieka at the Killingworth Art Center.
I watched Bob give a demo of his watercolor style last fall at the Hamden Art League.
He paints quickly and loose. Day #1 of the workshop: Bob completed a painting in 45 minutes, from value sketch to finished painting.
I found the instruction clear and produced a painting significantly different from my "regular" style. It was fun and freeing to paint using his techniques.
I'll post the painting later. It took me 2hours from value sketch to finished painting.
For me that's an extremely fast painting.

My interest in art started as a child but laid dormant while I worked in a career resolving family conflict as a mediator.
It's a long story with academic roots in mathematics and psychology, an enjoyable chapter teaching middle school students and a conclusion with work in State government.
As you can see, the path to painting has been circuitous.
We are bombarded with images in our daily lives from the minute we awake each morning until we close our eyes at night. We see them in magazines, on computer and television screens, on billboards, and in ubiquitous advertising.
For some of us the images continue while we sleep. While our other senses are also processing information it can be argued that modern life is disproportionately influenced by the objects in our visual world.
I've concluded that Art is important because it helps us understand our environment and provides a means for viewing the world, and communicating this vision to others.
